News & Updates
📅 Date: 7th October 2025
🕙 Time: 09:00 onwards
📍 Location: MCAST, Paola – Malta
For the fifth consecutive year, Europe Direct CORE Platform proudly set up its stand at MCAST Freshers’ Week and what a return it was!
Building on the momentum of our participation in 2022, 2023, and 2024, this year’s presence was our most vibrant and interactive yet. Against the backdrop of a thriving student community now numbering over 9,000 students, including more than 1,400 international students, we brought fresh energy, bold visuals, and a renewed focus on connection.
Our mission? To introduce young people to the world of EU opportunities not just through information, but through genuine conversation. From international travel and volunteering to training programmes and youth projects, we invited students to discover what Europe has to offer, right at their fingertips.
Networking was at the heart of it all. We reconnected with familiar faces and met new ones both among students and fellow NGOs sharing the hall. These interactions continue to strengthen the ecosystem of youth engagement in Malta, and we’re proud to be part of it.
By the numbers:
Hundreds of students engaged
Dozens of EU opportunities promoted
One buzzing hall of collaboration and curiosity
As always, MCAST Freshers’ Week remains a highlight in our calendar a chance to make Europe visible, accessible, and exciting for the changemakers of tomorrow.
In a bid to strengthen collaboration among European institutions, the Europe Direct CORE Platform hosted its annual “Network of Networks” event in Malta, bringing together representatives from various EU agencies. The gathering aimed to foster deeper partnerships while highlighting the importance of marine conservation through a unique eco-marine dolphin-spotting tour.
Organized in partnership with the European Commission Liaison Office in Malta, the event was spearheaded by Dr. Roberta Lepre, Manager of the ED CORE Platform. Participants had the rare opportunity to embark on a guided marine excursion alongside a marine biologist involved in an EU-funded research project tracking dolphin movements in the Mediterranean.
A Blend of Networking and Environmental Awareness
The initiative not only facilitated crucial inter-agency dialogue but also underscored the EU’s commitment to marine biodiversity and sustainable research. The dolphin-spotting tour served as a hands-on demonstration of how EU-funded science contributes to understanding and protecting Mediterranean marine life.
“Events like these bridge the gap between policy, research, and collaboration,” said Dr. Lepre. “By combining networking with real-world environmental projects, we reinforce the interconnected goals of the European Union.”
The gathering reinforced Malta’s role as a hub for EU dialogue and ecological innovation, leaving participants inspired to further cross-border cooperation both in policymaking and environmental stewardship.
Dr. Roberta Lepre, the manager of the Europe Direct CORE Platform, prepared an interactive video presentation for the signatories of the Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter. In her presentation, she provided an in-depth explanation of the EU Directive on Women on Boards, which was also the central theme of the event. This engaging summary highlights the directive’s objectives and its significance. You can watch it to gain valuable insights into this important initiative.
From Candidate to MEP
Building on our recent in-person meeting with youth, CORE Platform, in collaboration with the European Parliament Liaison Office and Junior Chamber International, organized an event bringing together Maltese MEPs, stakeholders, and volunteers from together.eu. The purpose was to discuss the journey from being a candidate in the last elections to serving as an MEP, either for the first time or as a returning representative.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola delivered the opening remarks, setting the stage for a reverse panel where young people and volunteers shared their perspectives on democracy, active citizenship, and the challenges they face. MEPs then responded by reflecting on their own political journeys and experiences, both locally and in the European Parliament.
The event concluded with a panel discussion focused on the ongoing work and responsibilities of Malta’s representatives in Brussels. The audience was encouraged to participate, ask questions, and engage in discussions on the future of democracy and the EU during these challenging times.
