Every reset and repair strategy needs to start with a review of attitudes because attitudes influence decisions not only by guiding the evaluation of choice options, but also by guiding the assessment of goals and appraisals of the situation.

Understanding attitudes is key in predicting which behaviours people are most likely to engage in and also which products the customer will be most likely to buy (AlbarraciĀ“n, Johnson, & Zanna, 2005; Duckworth, Bargh, Garcia & Chalken 2002). Some attitudes are heritable, which explains why we are similar to our parents or grandparents, while others are socially learned through direct and indirect experiences (De Houwer, Thomas & Baeyens, 2001).
